Tijdens de zomer is het vol leven, want in de kleine haven meren de veerboten aan, die trekkers vervoeren uit Agia Roumeli, aan het einde van de Samariakloof. Vanuit dit dorp vertrekken kleine bootjes naar het grafische, kosmopolitische en ge\u00efsoleerde dorp Loutro (er is geen weg naar dit dorp; je kunt alleen per boot reizen). Sfakia is zichtbaar vanaf de zee, dit dorp is een amfitheater gebouwd boven de baai. Meerdere gebouwen met traditionele architectuur zijn bewaard gebleven.
