Les moines qui y vivaient ont particip\u00e9 activement \u00e0 toutes les batailles de lib\u00e9ration de la Cr\u00e8te. En 1940, les soldats allemands captur\u00e8rent les moines et pill\u00e8rent le monast\u00e8re en emportant l&rsquo;un des objets les plus importants, le Timios Stavros (Sainte-Croix), qui fut restitu\u00e9 des ann\u00e9es plus tard.
